14 Workshop Safely Tips
One way to have fun in your shop, as well as when you are performing all these home fix-it projects we talk about, is to keep safety in mind. There are lots of ways to get hurt. Here is a list of some common sense safety tips:
1. Always wear whatever safety gear is needed for the project at hand.
2. Make sure cutting tools are sharp. With a dull tool you may have to give it extra muscle and lose control.
3. Be sure handles and grips are properly attached
4. Oil or grease on the tool may mean you can’t get a safe grip.
5. Use each tool only for the task the tool is made for. Don’t try to force it to do things it cannot do.
6. Wear safety goggles when using a striking tool. Avoid glancing blows and never hit the face of another striking tool.
7. When using a wrench against strong resistance, push with an open palm. If there is a slip, you won’t skin your knuckles.
8. Always clamp your work if there’s a danger of it slipping
9. Some power tools make lots of noise. Don’t forget hearing protection.
10. When using a power tool, don’t carry the tool by the cord or yank on the cord to disconnect.
11. Wear proper apparel when using bench-type or stationary tools. Avoid loose or baggy sleeves, ties, jewelry, or anything that could get caught in a moving part.
12. Be sure the switch is off when you plug in a tool and that adjusting keys are not still in place in the tool.
13. Always work with proper lighting conditions and don’t overreach or get off balance.
14. You don’t need an audience when working with power tools.
